Hello and welcome to my first monthly round up featuring the shortest month of the year. Anyone have Leap Day plans? Ladies, a great day to propose to your boyfriends a la Amy Adams.
What I’m reading: Currently making my way through Virginia Woolf’s To the Lighthouse. So far, the book is excellent and her observations astute. Though now I have to deal with the fact that the musings of a fictional 60 year old father in 20th century Britain deeply resonate with me. I’ll unpack that later.
What’s on repeat: “Mariage d’amour” by Paul de Senneville. Don’t be fooled: the Youtube video with millions of views says this piece is by Chopin, but that is a lie. Hats off to my brother for pointing this out. Justice for Senneville!
What I’m looking forward to: My family likes to joke that Lent is always right around the corner -- Catholics sure are fun. But before Lent comes Fat Tuesday, and I pregame Ash Wednesday every year with homemade crepes and a sinful amount of nutella and strawberries on top. If you’re in DC, you are invited to my crepe party!
Mini life lesson of the month: I went swing dancing for the first time and I hate to confirm that getting out of your comfort zone and trying new things can, in fact, be fun. If you need me, I will be in my room chanting step, step, triple step, triple step, step.
What I’m paying attention to: Tucker Carlson and his interview with Vladimir Putin. I’m no Tucker fan and I am wary of the right’s resistance to helping Ukraine, but no one does entertainment journalism quite like he does. So, I popped some popcorn, typed in tuckercarlson.com and had some fun watching an interview of the man who could nuke us all before you can say “Stop trying to be Peter the Great, it's never going to happen!”
As always, thanks for reading. What are you up to this month?
